I’ve helped a lot of couples plan small weddings, and the dress question always comes up fast with a courthouse ceremony. The setting is simple, the ceremony is short, and you get to wear something a little different from a traditional gown.

I put together 25 courthouse wedding dress ideas, from easy satin minis to beaded two-pieces, and grouped them so you can jump to the look you’re drawn to. Pick the one that feels most like you.

Minis with a Statement Detail

A short courthouse wedding dress is easy to move in, and each of these five has one detail that carries the whole look.

1. Satin Slip Dress

I love starting with the Satin Slip Dress because it’s about as easy as a courthouse wedding dress gets. It’s a swingy tie-strap mini in glossy satin with a wide band at the hem.

The wide band gives the hem a finished look, and the swingy shape moves nicely in photos outside the courthouse. The tie straps also let you adjust the fit a little before you walk in.

Since the dress is so simple, you can play with whatever you like, from bold earrings to a small bouquet. It’s also one you can wear again for an anniversary dinner.

2. Bow Mini

A lot of brides choose the Bow Mini when they want something clean with one fun detail. It’s a tailored strapless mini in crisp satin, with an oversized bow right at the neckline.

The bow is the whole decoration, so you really don’t need a necklace. If you want it to show, wear your hair up.

Crisp satin holds its shape pretty well, so it should still look neat after the drive and the wait in the lobby.

3. Back Bow Mini

The Back Bow Mini looks simple from the front and saves the best part for the back. It’s a structured satin mini with wide straps, a low scooped back and an oversized bow with long tails.

Ask your photographer, or whoever’s holding the camera, to catch you from behind as you walk in or out. The long tails and the low back are what everyone will want to see.

Wide straps also feel steadier than thin ones when you’re hugging everyone afterward.

4. Puff Sleeve Mini

I really like the Puff Sleeve Mini for brides who want a little drama without a big skirt. It’s a fitted satin mini with oversized puff sleeves and a deep open back.

The sleeves are the main event, so keep everything else simple. Small earrings and a sleek hairstyle let the sleeves and the back show.

Courthouse waiting rooms can be chilly, and a deep open back gets cold fast. Bring a wrap you can slip off right before the ceremony.

5. Feather Mini

Think about the Feather Mini if you want something playful. It’s a sleeveless, high-neck white crepe shift with a full ostrich-feather trim around the hem.

The top half stays clean and simple, and the feathers handle the fun part. They move with every step, so ask someone to film a short clip of you walking out.

Keep it hanging until you leave, and give the hem some room in the car so the feathers stay fluffy. Small jewelry is plenty here.

Bubble Hems & Corset Bodices

These four courthouse wedding dress styles have more shape up top and more fullness below, so they feel a little closer to a traditional gown.

6. Bubble Tea Length

This works well when you want a full skirt without a huge gown. The Bubble Tea Length is a strapless ivory satin dress with a clean, structured bodice and a full skirt gathered into a bubble hem.

Tea length means the skirt stops somewhere between your knee and ankle. It’s an easy length for a courthouse wedding dress, since you won’t be fighting the hem on the courthouse steps.

It’s a good pick if you still want that classic bridal feel. A small veil or a simple hair clip finishes the look.

7. Bubble Mini

I love the Bubble Mini for a bride who wants something short and a little playful. It has a boned corset bodice joined to a short satin bubble skirt.

The boned bodice gives you a lot of structure, and the bubble skirt adds fun volume at the hem. It’s a small dress that still has a lot of shape.

Sit down in it a few times before the wedding so you know how it feels. That matters if you’re planning a long lunch afterward.

8. Embroidered Corset

Another option is the Embroidered Corset. It has a seamed corset bodice with tiny embroidered wildflowers, above a gathered taffeta skirt.

The wildflowers are small, so they look sweet instead of busy. They show up best close up, so it’s a good pick if you’re planning a few photos outdoors.

Taffeta has some body, so the gathered skirt holds its shape and gives a little rustle when you walk. A small bouquet with similar tiny blooms would match it nicely.

9. Corset Gown

Something else to think about is the Corset Gown, especially if you still want a bridal feel. It has a seamed strapless bodice and a full, draped skirt, with a satin neck band that falls down the back.

That neck band is what makes this one different from the other corset styles. It adds something to look at from behind, and it gives a strapless dress a bit more going on up top.

A full, draped skirt takes up room, so give yourself extra space in the car and in tight courthouse hallways.

Lace & Floral Styles

Lace is a classic wedding fabric, and these four courthouse wedding dress options use it in very different ways.

10. Floral Lace Mini

I’ve found the Floral Lace Mini is a great choice if you want lots of texture. It’s a fitted cap-sleeve mini covered in dimensional lace flowers, with a keyhole open back.

The cap sleeves give you a little coverage on your shoulders, and the keyhole back is a sweet surprise when you turn around. It’s a nice mix of covered and open.

Texture like this shows up in close-up photos, so ask for a few shots of the flowers and the back.

11. Lace Corset Mini

A lot of brides choose the Lace Corset Mini when they want lace with a little more shape. It’s a strapless, boned lace mini with sequin detail and a scalloped hem.

The sequins add some sparkle without covering the whole dress. The scalloped hem gives the bottom edge a soft, pretty finish.

A strapless dress that’s boned usually stays put, so you won’t spend the ceremony tugging at it. Still, raise your arms and move around in it before the wedding, since you’ll be hugging people and signing papers.

12. Lace Corset Set

Consider the Lace Corset Set if you like the idea of two matching pieces. It’s a strapless lace corset top with structured cups, paired with a matching A-line mini skirt with a scalloped hem.

The matching skirt keeps the two pieces looking like one outfit, and the scalloped hem adds a pretty edge. The structured cups give the top its shape, and the A-line skirt flares out gently from the waist.

I like sets like this because you can wear the pieces on their own later. The skirt would work with a plain tee, and the top with jeans.

13. Ruffle Dress

The Ruffle Dress is the most romantic one in this section. It’s a spaghetti-strap satin dress with ruffles, lace appliqué and a tiered skirt with a slit.

There’s a lot going on, but it all stays soft. The ruffles and tiers add movement, and the slit gives you room to step up stairs.

With this much detail, I’d keep the extras simple. Plain shoes and a small bouquet are all you need.

Pearls, Beads & Crystals

If you want some sparkle in your courthouse wedding dress, these six use beads, pearls and crystals in very different ways.

14. Beaded Fairy Mini

I really like the Beaded Fairy Mini for a bride with a playful side. It’s a square-neck mini covered in beading, with gold sun and fairy motifs and a thigh slit.

The gold motifs are the little surprise here, and guests will have fun spotting them up close. It’s a good fit for someone who wants a dress that feels personal, not classic.

Beaded dresses can feel heavier than they look, so wear it around the house for an hour before the wedding. The thigh slit gives you some room to move.

15. Fringe Mini

You could also go with the Fringe Mini, which has the same square neckline but a totally different feel. It’s covered in shimmering beaded fringe.

The fringe moves every time you do, so it catches the light in photos and videos. It feels like a party dress in the best way.

Fringe is easy to dance in, so it makes a fun courthouse wedding dress if you’re planning a little celebration afterward. Pick shoes you can walk and dance in.

16. Pearl Fringe Mini

Think about the Pearl Fringe Mini if you want fringe with a softer, more classic feel. It’s a strapless, seamed satin mini with a folded neckline and a hem of pearl-beaded fringe.

The fringe sits only at the hem, so the top half stays smooth and simple. The pearls swing a little when you walk and give the hem a pretty movement.

Pearls and satin are a classic pairing, so you won’t need much else. I see this work really well for brides who want something traditional in a short dress.

17. Pearl Sleeve Dress

One thing I suggest for brides who want sleeves is the Pearl Sleeve Dress. It’s a satin dress with a wide off-the-shoulder collar and sheer sleeves scattered with pearls.

The pearls are spaced apart instead of packed together, so the sleeves feel light. The wide collar sits off your shoulders and frames your collarbones.

Wear your hair up so the collar and sleeves show. Sheer sleeves give you coverage without the weight of heavy fabric.

18. Pearl Column Dress

I love how simple the Pearl Column Dress looks from far away and how detailed it gets up close. It’s a sleek, fitted crepe dress with a scoop neckline and pearl teardrops scattered over it.

The teardrops keep the dress clean, and the pearls feel like little extras. The scoop neckline looks nice with or without a necklace.

I’d keep your hair and earrings simple and let the pearls do the sparkling. It’s also an easy dress to wear again for a night out.

19. Sheer Crystal Top

This works well when you want coverage and sparkle together. The Sheer Crystal Top has a sheer tulle high neck and sleeves scattered with crystals and pearls, worn over a bustier.

You get the coverage of a high neck and sleeves, but the sheer tulle keeps it from feeling heavy. The bustier underneath gives you a more structured base.

Since the top is already doing a lot, keep whatever you wear with it simple. A plain skirt or trousers would be plenty.

Two-Pieces, Trousers & Tailored Looks

You don’t have to wear a traditional dress at all. These six courthouse wedding dress ideas use tops, skirts, trousers and even a blazer instead.

20. Blazer Dress

If you’d rather wear a suit than a dress, the Blazer Dress is the one. It’s an oversized, double-breasted satin blazer worn as the dress.

It feels like a wedding suit in a softer fabric. The satin keeps it pretty, and the oversized fit keeps it relaxed.

It’s also a look you can wear again, with tights and boots when it gets colder. I’d try it on with the shoes you plan to wear so you can see the full outfit.

21. Crinkle Top & Skirt

I’ve found the Crinkle Top & Skirt works really well for brides who want to feel relaxed. It’s a crinkled, softly pleated strapless top over a fluid satin skirt.

The crinkled fabric hides small creases, so a car ride won’t undo it. The soft pleats keep the top from looking stiff.

The satin skirt is fluid, so it moves with you as you walk. This is a good choice if you don’t want to feel dressed up in something big and formal.

22. Organza Blouse

Consider the Organza Blouse if you want something romantic with a little vintage charm. It’s a sheer pleated organza top with a ruffled high collar, voluminous sleeves and a sash tied in a bow at the back.

Between the high collar, the big sleeves and the bow, there’s already plenty going on. I’d keep the bottom half plain, like a simple skirt or high-waisted trousers.

The bow at the back is a pretty detail for photos, and since it’s a top, you can wear it again with jeans.

23. Lace Top & Trousers

I really like the Lace Top & Trousers for brides who’d rather not wear a skirt. It’s a cropped lace top with sheer lace sleeves, paired with high-waisted, flowing satin trousers.

The cropped top and high-waisted trousers meet at the waist, so you get pretty lace on top and a smooth, flowing line below. The satin moves nicely when you walk.

Trousers are easy on courthouse stairs, and a breeze won’t be a problem. You also won’t have to think about your hem all day.

24. Beaded Two-Piece

This works well when you want a matching set that feels like a real wedding outfit. The Beaded Two-Piece is a cream bralette top and matching skirt with raised, beaded floral embroidery on both.

Because the embroidery is on the top and the skirt, the two pieces look like one outfit. The flowers are raised, so you can see the texture even in photos.

Cream is softer than bright white, so it looks really nice with gold jewelry and a natural makeup look.

25. Crystal Crop Top

Last on the list is the Crystal Crop Top, and it’s one of my go-to suggestions for a bride who loves a little glam. It’s a crystal-covered cropped top with a sleek white skirt that has covered buttons down the back.

The top has all the sparkle, so the skirt stays smooth and quiet. The covered buttons down the back are a pretty detail that most people only notice when you turn around.

I’d pair it with simple shoes and your hair pulled back so the crystals can shine. It’s a modern courthouse wedding dress idea, and it still feels like a real bridal outfit in a short ceremony.

Wrapping It Up

That’s my full list of courthouse wedding dress ideas. You don’t have to follow a trend, so pick the one that feels like you and make sure you can walk, sit and hug people comfortably in it.

One last thing: call your courthouse ahead to ask about your ceremony time and whether there’s a security check at the door, so you’re not rushing in your dress.

Which one are you leaning toward? Tell me in the comments.
