20 Bridal Accessories to Style With Your Wedding Dress

I’ve helped a lot of brides pick their bridal accessories over the years, and I’m still surprised by how much one small piece can change a look. A simple dress with the right veil or a pretty pair of gloves suddenly feels like it was made just for you.

I put together 20 of my favorite bridal accessories and sorted them by where you wear them, from veils and hair pieces all the way down to gloves and stockings.

Veils & Hats

Let’s start at the top, since veils and hats are the bridal accessories everyone notices first.

1. Pearl-Scattered Veil

A long tulle veil covered in clustered pearls of mixed sizes is a great pick if you want one of the more detailed bridal accessories. It drapes over your head, with the densest pearls along the edge.

I like this one with a dress that doesn’t have much beading. The veil does the talking, and the pearls get their moment.

Ask your hairstylist to pin it in well, since all those pearls add a little weight.

2. Crystal Birdcage Veil

A birdcage veil is a short tulle veil that sits over the face, and this one is dotted with scattered crystals. I’d wear it with a pearl-and-crystal drop earring.

This works well when you want a vintage feel without a long veil to manage. It’s easy to move around in, so you can hug everyone and dance without worrying about it.

Keep your hair smooth and simple underneath, since the veil already adds the detail.

3. Tulle Bow Veil

Another option is an oversized stiff tulle bow with a pearl-wrapped center. A long, soft veil falls from it, so you get the bow and the veil in one piece.

I really like this for brides who want something playful that still feels like a traditional veil. The stiff bow and the soft veil give you two different textures.

Because the bow is so big, keep the rest of your look simple and let it be the main detail.

4. Lace Head Covering

Consider a scalloped lace cap-style piece with a long lace-trimmed veil falling down the back. It’s a classic look with a lot of old-fashioned charm.

A lot of brides choose this for a church ceremony or a vintage-inspired wedding. Since the veil is trimmed in lace too, the whole piece feels like one soft design.

Hold it up next to your dress before you decide. If your gown has lace, try to match the color and pattern as closely as you can.

5. Hat with Lace Veil

If you’d rather skip the traditional veil, think about a white flat-crowned, wide-brim hat. It has a tulle veil edged in scalloped lace that falls over the shoulders.

This works well for outdoor or daytime weddings, since the wide brim gives you a little shade. It’s also a fun choice if you’re going for a garden party feel.

Bring the hat to your hair trial so you know your hairstyle works under it.

Headbands, Caps & Hair Pieces

If a full veil isn’t your thing, hair pieces are the next place to look. These are some of my go-to bridal accessories for brides who want something smaller.

6. Embellished Headband

I love a padded white headband, since it’s one of the easiest bridal accessories to make your own. It can carry details like starbursts, crystals, or pearls.

A padded band is usually more comfortable than a thin one, which matters on a long wedding day. It’s also a good first step if you’ve never worn anything in your hair.

Look at the details on your dress and match them, like crystals for beading or pearls for buttons.

7. Beaded Floral Headpiece

Here’s a piece that does two jobs. It’s a beaded lace flower-and-leaf design worn along the hairline, with a flowing veil behind it.

It works well for garden, woodland, or boho weddings. The flowers and leaves feel natural, and the beading keeps it dressy.

If you’d like to take the veil off for the reception, check whether it detaches before you order.

8. Pearl Head Chain

Think about a pearl head chain if you want a boho look. Strands of small pearls drape across the forehead, with crystal flower accents.

Boho brides often choose this one because it feels relaxed and a little different from a regular headpiece. It looks pretty with loose waves or a loose braid.

Wear it at your hair trial first. A chain can sit differently depending on your hair and your part, and you’ll want to know it’s comfortable before the wedding.

9. Beaded Lace Cap

One thing I suggest for vintage lovers is a beaded lace cap. It’s a close-fitting lace cap in a 1920s style, with a fringe of pearl drops across the brow.

This works well when your wedding has a Roaring Twenties or art deco theme. It’s also a nice match for a vintage venue.

The cap fits close to your head, so you don’t need much hair styling underneath. Keep your earrings small and let the pearl fringe get the attention.

10. Jeweled Hairpins

You could also skip the big piece and use hairpins instead. These are pearl and crystal flower pins in mixed gold and silver tones, scattered through a low bun and worn with detailed drop earrings.

I like the mixed gold and silver, since it works with whichever jewelry you’re wearing. You don’t have to worry about matching metals.

Ask your stylist to place the pins after your bun is finished, and add more or fewer depending on how full you want it.

11. Pearl Hair Net

Something else to think about is a pearl hair net. It’s an openwork bun cover made of crystals, pearls, and gold-toned wire in a floral lattice, and it comes with a pearl bracelet to match.

It covers your bun in a flower pattern, so you won’t need many other hair pieces. A smooth, sleek bun underneath shows it off best.

Since the wire is gold-toned, keep the rest of your jewelry in warm tones and let the bracelet tie it together.

Ear & Neck Details

Ears and necklines are where bridal accessories start to feel more personal, and you can wear most of these with a veil or without one.

12. Tulle & Pearl Ear Cuff

I love how different an ear cuff looks from regular earrings. This one wraps around the ear with gathered tulle, small white flowers, and pearl sprigs that curve up and around, plus a trailing pearl drop at the lobe.

It’s a great choice if you’re wearing your hair up or tucked back, since the whole shape shows.

Keep your other bridal accessories simple so the cuff can be the focus.

13. Lace Floral Choker

A lace floral choker is a pretty way to add detail at the neckline. It’s a wide white choker of embroidered lace flowers on sheer tulle, worn snug at the neck.

A lot of brides choose this with a simple neckline, since it adds something right where the dress leaves space.

Because it sits snug, try it on with your dress ahead of time. Check that it feels comfortable when you turn your head and hug people.

14. Chunky Pearl Choker

Consider a chunky pearl choker if you love classic pearls but want something bolder. It’s a triple-strand necklace of large pearls, worn high at the base of the neck.

I see this work really well with a simple dress, since the pearls are big enough to be the main detail.

Wear small earrings or none at all so nothing competes with it.

15. Fabric Rose Choker

Another option is a fabric rose choker. It’s an oversized ivory fabric rose worn at the neck and tied at the nape with a thin cord.

It’s a fun alternative to a traditional necklace, and it’s great for a bride who wants a flower detail. Since it’s fabric, you don’t have to worry about it wilting.

If you’re wearing your hair down, the cord at the back will be hidden, so the rose gets all the attention.

16. Tulle Neck Scarf

You could also try a soft tulle scarf wrapped around the neck, paired with long chain-and-pearl drop earrings.

It’s a romantic detail, and it’s one of the less common bridal accessories I see, so it usually gets lots of compliments.

Wear your hair up so the earrings and the scarf both show, and practice wrapping the scarf at home so you know how you want it to sit.

Gloves, Stockings & Cover-Ups

Last up are the bridal accessories you wear from your fingertips down, plus one pretty layer for your shoulders.

17. Beaded Floral Gloves

I love a pair of long sheer tulle gloves. These ones are embroidered with beaded flowers and vines, and they run from the fingers all the way up the forearm.

They look elegant with a sleeveless or strapless dress, and they add a lot of detail to your hand photos.

Plan the ring exchange ahead of time, since you’ll need to slip off the glove on your ring hand. Ask your officiant to give you a moment for it.

18. Script Tulle Gloves

For something more personal, look at ruffled, sheer tulle gloves hand-embroidered with a line of vow script.

Think about choosing a line from your own vows. It’s a sweet detail that your photographer can capture up close.

Double-check the wording before it’s stitched, and keep your other bridal accessories light so the words are easy to read.

19. Crystal Stockings

A lot of brides choose crystal stockings when they want a detail most people don’t expect. These are sheer stockings scattered with dangling crystal and pearl charms, worn with pointed white pumps.

These work best with a shorter dress, a tea-length dress, or a gown with a slit, since you want your legs to show. With a full-length skirt they’d be hidden.

The charms can snag, so put them on carefully before you get into your dress, and keep a spare pair in your emergency kit.

20. Floral Cropped Jacket

I really like a cropped jacket for brides who want a little extra coverage. It’s a cropped ivory cover-up with wide short sleeves and sheer organza flower appliqués, worn over a gown.

This works well when your ceremony calls for covered shoulders, or when you want a change of look between the ceremony and the reception.

It’s a light layer, so don’t count on it for warmth. Take it off after the ceremony and you’ve got a second look from the same dress.

Wrapping It Up

That’s my full list of favorite bridal accessories, from veils all the way down to stockings. You don’t need to wear them all, so pick one or two that fit your dress and your style, and build from there.

Which one are you most excited to try? Let me know in the comments.
